Welcome to the Colon Cancer Alliance
Welcome and thank you for visiting the Colon Cancer Alliance - Voices of Rhode Island website. Chances are you or someone you know has been affected by Colon cancer. Voices of Rhode Island is the local chapter of the National Colon Cancer Alliance in Washington, DC. Our purpose is it to promote prevention by screening and education and to also provide support to patients and caregivers.
Whether you are newly diagnosed, a survivor or you've lost a loved one to colon cancer, the volunteers of the Voices of Rhode Island are here for you with support, information, resources and kind hearts. Colon cancer has given us a purpose! The invisible thread which connects our group is that we know first-hand that colon cancer is a silent killer and by the time you are symptomatic - the polyp in your colon has most likely turned to cancer. We also know that colon cancer is the second leading cause of death - and it affects both men and women equally well before age 50.
Be Aware - be an advocate for yourself and get screened. Screening is a routine colonoscopy typically covered by your healthcare provider at age 50 or prior, pending history. During this procedure, polyps - which lead to colon cancer, can be immediately removed, thus eliminating the occurrence of this disease. Colon cancer is preventable, treatable and beatable! Just ask yourself - would you rather have a colonoscopy or chemo? It's that simple.
